The perfect white stone I came across in Dervent Valley amazed me by its simple and elegant beauty. The Hittites, the high Anatolian civilization used this stone while handcrafting some of their decorative objects and materials. Just like the one I saw in garden of the Museum Hotel in Uçhisar.
While this white elegant art is a good symbol of a high civilization, it still can be so stunning only by the way it lays onto the earth ground without a single human touch. This I saw in spectacular Dervent Valley.
The home of the white stone tuff located in the heart of Cappadocia just 10min. away from Göreme had never been inhabited through civilizations unlike the other sites of region’s valleys and cities. But it is one of the most interesting and overwhelming spot for visitors especially at sunset. I will tell u you why …
It was our first destination when we first arrived to Cappadocia. After we settled into our hotel, we were suggested to go to see sunset at the valley. As soon as I stepped into the powdery white volcanic tuff stone, I realize I was in somewhere truly magical. I could sense the tuff stone was actually absorbing the sound in a unique way, making all the surrounding calm and quite. This tranquility provided me a perfect ground for focusing carefully to record everything which surrounds me into my mind. In addition to all my personal memory, I wanted to record them to my camera to share the beauty of this incredible surrounding by other people.
The white stone was providing a perfect background for my photo frames. Most of the time this indefinite perspective caused surrounded rocks and cliffs to appear in a totally different scale. So me and Barış ended up posing in this interesting ground while viewing the sunset along by the sound of the wind.
The white ground turned out to be greyish by the disappearance of the sun and it made the earth and sky to become one. It was one of a kind experience where is more usual to come across such scenes in dreams. That might be the reason why the other name of Dervent valley is Dream Valley. Who knows?
It has been a dreamy spot by its very unusual geographical formations and maybe one of the most interesting spot for me cause I could view the true artistic talent of natural sources without human intervention. I saw every other fair chimney has a unique look and if you let your imagination fly it was possible to see the incredible resemblance of rocks to some animal shape. One of them which I found too obvious was the Camel rock in below photo.
To start our Cappadocia trip and end the day at the Dervent Valley was a perfect decision. I highly recommend that to people who ll go there with spiritual and inspirational passion. Just please do let your imagination fly there to understand the value and difference of your surrounding…
